The Vandenberg Coalition has been an active voice in favor of preserving American security since our founding in 2021. There is no greater national security threat than the Chinese Communist Party, whose threats against Taiwan, weaponization of American supply chains, and active efforts of espionage against the United States are well documented. Among these threats is the ability for the CCP, thanks to its control over TikTok parent company ByteDance, to determine what our citizens have access to, think, and do. The below paper outlines the significant risks posed by CCP control over TikTok’s data and algorithm, and argues that any deal that allows the CCP to retain access to these things is a bad deal.
