Jon “Ty” Thomas is a retired Lieutenant General, having served over 32 years in the United States Air Force (USAF).  He is a combat-proven pilot, with over 4,100 flight hours in twelve aircraft types, to include the C-17, KC-10, C-130, T-38, and KC-46.  Immediately prior to retirement in 2021, he served as Deputy Commander, Pacific Air Forces at Hickam Field, Oahu, Hawaii.  In this role, he teamed with the commander responsible for 48,000 Airmen employing nearly 250 aircraft within the largest and most critical geographic theater.

Prior to his assignment at Pacific Air Forces, Ty served as Deputy Commander of the USAF Air Mobility Command responsible for all aerial refueling, airlift, and aeromedical evacuation missions of the USAF.  In addition to his Pacific and air mobility assignments, he has extensive experience in Europe from multiple assignments at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, including tours as the Director of Operations at U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Air Forces Africa, as well as commander of the Ramstein Air Base and the 86th Airlift Wing.

Ty is a distinguished graduate of the Air Force Academy, Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, and the Air War College.

Currently, Ty is a business executive, senior consultant, and advisory board member in the defense, national security, and technology sectors.  Major areas of focus in his current activities are the operation and maintenance of a fleet of 40 specialized aircraft on contract with the US Department of Defense as well as multiple ally and partner air forces.   A California native, he and his wife of 35 years, Leah, live in the San Diego area with their children and extended family nearby.
