Samuel Byers is the Vandenberg Coalition’s Research Associate. He has experience in government and the think tank sector. Most recently, he served for two years as a policy analyst in the Office of the Secretary of the Navy, where he advised the Secretary on issues relating to international affairs, industrial and economic developments, and domestic politics which affected the management of the United States Navy and Marine Corps. Prior to working in the Pentagon, Samuel was a research assistant in the International Security Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

He is a recent graduate of the War Studies program at King’s College London, where his MA research focused on the political and economic maneuvering behind the creation of the first American steel navy in the age of Mahan. He also holds a BA with honors in Diplomatic History and Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania.
